Outfit of The Week

Autumn is finally here. The season for boots, cozy sweaters, and pumpkin spiced lattes. And as you all know, Autumn is my favorite season. I was so excited to finally wear Fall colors and boots! Unfortunately, it did not last long because it quickly became almost 80 degrees outside and required an outfit change. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.

This lightweight sweater has become one of my favorite pieces. It's a beautiful hunter green color and goes well with so many things.  It's a perfect layering piece. I've already worn it so many ways. Just recently, I wore it with a white tank, cuffed skinny jeans, and leapord loafers. Lots of possibilities, and you all know how much I love pieces like that.

Here, I wore it with a white long sleeved T shirt and taupe leggings. I added a maroon bag for a pop of Fall color and my favorite black boots.

A maroon bag is a must. It just goes with everything. And what better season to use it,
than the season for rich tones.

These polka dot leggings scream Fall and Winter. So comfy. The deep taupe color is perfect to pair with rich tones like hunter green and maroon. Of course a plain black tunic sweater would be amazing with these as well.

And this necklace that I just can't stop reaching for. It seriously goes with everything. I've probably blogged about this piece at least 10 times. I just absolutely love the colors of this necklace against the hunter green.

Well, I'm ready for Fall. Even though the weather isn't. Hopefully it will catch up soon, because it is my favorite season for dressing up.

An Easy Updo

I love trying new hairstyles, but usually all I have time for is a quick blow dry and a run through with a flat iron. It's great when you can find quick, easy, and cute styles that you can do yourself. Thank goodness for YouTube and Pintrest right? I recently discovered an amazing look that is super simple and absolutely beautiful. No bobby pins needed. Just an elastic headband. I definitely had a lot of compliments when I tried this look and the best part? it took less than 3 minutes to do. Winner!

For the look:

Take an elastic headband and put it on your head like a hat. Pull down on your strands so you don't have too big of a bump on the top of your head. Once you feel like your band is secure, take thick strands one at a time and roll them upwards loosley, overlapping the band and tuck the ends into the band. Keep rolling and tucking until you have a thick ring around your head like above.

Do the same with the front strands. Play with them and keep tucking them a bit until they are where you want them to be.

A couple sprays of hairspray and you are good to go.

Add some sparkle by using cute rhinestone embellished elastic
bands. And for a simple look just go with a plain one that matches your hair color like I did, or a glittery one. Use flowers and tuck them into the band and secure with bobby pins for a cute whimsical look. Great for little girls too. One easy hairstyle yet so many possibilities.

Party Planning Made Easy

Party planning is one of the very many things I'm crazy about. I'm always looking for great party themes and cute decor to go with them. Planning a party is so much fun, but it isn't easy. Especially when you have a budget, which many of us do. Budgets are very important. As I tell my kids all the time, "just because you have the money doesn't mean you should spend it". It may seem like in order to have a beautifully decorated and successful party, you have to have a very open wallet. Well, that's not true. In this blog post I'm going to share a few great tips on how to keep your party in budget and still keep it looking cool.

First, figure out a theme. This is the best part, but also, the most difficult. There are soooo many adorable and creative themes out there. And if you are like me and obsessed with Pintrest, then good luck. This step is going to take you a while. Pick a theme that will compliment the type of party you are having. If it's a child's birthday, pick something they are into at the moment like Hello Kitty, or Construction. Even Barney can be done very tastefully if you use some creativity. ;)
If you are hosting a bridal shower, think of an elegant theme. I love vintage inspired for a bridal party, especially if the bride is totally into that stuff. Try to incorporate the bride to be's personality. If she is into designer labels, throw an awesome fashion party incorporating her favorite labels into the decor. Go flower crazy and throw her a beautiful garden party with tea and pretty desserts. Any girl would love that. Whatever theme you choose, make sure it works well with the party and person you are throwing it for.

Decorations can get very pricey and it is so easy to get distracted and go way off budget. Try using your crafty side for this one. Using pretty printed paper to make beautiful fans or a great original banner would be super cute and super inexpensive. Using aluminum cans and spray painting them in gold or whatever color your party theme is, and sticking flowers in them would be a perfect money saving tip for dressing up any table scape. Choose flowers that are pretty but on the cheaper side. Like Gerber daisy's or carnations. Roses and Hydrangeas are beautiful but can be pretty pricey. Go on a hike and collect long branches and twigs. Stick them in a tall vase, it'll add instant drama to your tables. Throwing a vintage themed tea party? What better place to shop for mixed matched tea cups and vases than at the local thrift store? You would be surprised at what you can find and how cheap it is. These days die cutting is so popular and I happen to be obsessed with my die cutting machine. Cut out great silhouettes of things that go with your party theme, add some string and hang them from the ceiling. I did my son's construction birthday party just like that. Yellow hard hats and orange caution cones were hanging right above my table scape. It was perfect. There is so much you can improvise with to decorate your party on a budget.

Food. A very important part of a party. I honestly would spend most of my budget here. You want your guests to go home full and happy. If you feed them good, they'll remember that party forever. Don't go crazy with appetizers if you are having a main course. And try doing it simple. Use things like toothpicks and labels to dress up your appetizers. Remember, even the food table is decoration for your party. So make sure you dress it up. If you are on a tight budget make your party a potluck or  do an appetizer only party. Whatever you choose, make sure its all tasty and looks good!!

The candy bar. The major hit of the party. You can have a whole table dedicated to candy and desserts, or you can incorporate a few cute jars and bowls of candy onto your food table if your party is on the small side. When doing a candy bar you want to remember a few things. Obviously your budget, the color scheme of your party, and presentation. You want to make the candy bar very eye catching. It's the decor of your party. Dress it up right with glass apothecary jars or even acrylic tall vases would do the trick. You want to have different size jars and vases and fill them to the top with hard candy. If you want to incorporate lollipops and things use shorter vases and use a hard candy as filler, then stick the pops in. They'll stand up much better. Use things around the house and be creative. I remember I filling my son's toy dump trucks with M&M's for his construction themed birthday party.
Mason jars would be a fun and inexpensive alternative to glass vases. You can even add some height to your candy bar by stacking a few books under the table cloth here and there, then putting a candy vase or jar on top of the covered books. This gives good drama to any table scape. This would work great for your food table as well.

Party favors. Keep it simple and sweet. Tiny labeled jars filled with candy, or cute baggies with toy goodies. Or vintage tea cups that were used for the vintage table scape. Guest love taking something home to remember your party. Even a little handmade card with a nice thank you note would do the trick. You just want your guest to know you appreciated their presence at your party.

Using thrift store finds to decorate make a beautiful table scape. Perfect for a vintage party on budget. Use love notes, dollies, and strands of pearls for an elegant touch.

Paper makes great decorations. And it's super cheap. Plus, you can use them in your photo album of the party after it's all over! ;)

Here are some paper fans I used as a backdrop for a wedding reception. They were super easy to make and I'll share on how to make them next time. ;)

I hope some of these tips help you when you plan your next party. Follow these and you are sure to stay on budget and still have a fabulous party.

Patterns and Brights

I'm in love with this seasons bright printed pieces. We've been seeing bright prints since last Springs palazzo pants, but I'm really loving this season's take on them. They aren't as wide legged or as silky. Perfect for any casual day. Dress them up for an evening date night or keep them casual for a day out with the kids. A straight relaxed leg, and a fun pattern done in bright colors are perfect for the Spring and Summer season. I've only had these pants for a few weeks now and I've already worn them so many times. With so many colors in one piece there are so many possibilities. An opportunity  to be to be creative, and I love that.

Wearing a lightweight colored cardigan can really help finish off any outfit. Here I could have stuck with a basic black one but I was going for a bright Summer is near look. Working with the colors in the pieces you buy is key to making the most of your purchase. One piece has so many possibilities.

I really love the elastic detail on the waist of these pants, so I tucked my shirt in so it would be visible. But you can very well keep it hidden by leaving your top untucked. A plain black longer tunic top would go perfect on these pants also. Even a magenta fitted tshirt would be great for a very casual look.

I have yet to buy a magenta handbag. Which is the color in these pants. But this orange/coral one works pretty well too. You will be surprised with what pieces work when put together. I could have went with an all black purse but I wanted an extra pop of color to bring out the other colors in these pants.

Fit 4 You

The weather is getting warmer and it'll be Summer before we know it. This is usually the time everyone wants to get in shape. It's so easy to say it but let's face it, so hard to do. Especially if you haven't been staying active. I'm going to be honest. During the colder weather I love indulging in comfort food and I hardly do any physical activity except clean my house and play with my kids. It's just too cold to move!! :) and blankets and sweaters are just too comfy to run or sweat in, so I prefer not to do those things. But those sweaters and blankets are now put away and the sun is shinning and it's finally warm. We all know, working out is a must. And you know I'm a fan of my own little workouts here and there.  A quick set of crunches and squats wherever I'm able to fit it in. Even if it's while cooking dinner. I'm notorious for doing 100 jumping jacks while waiting for the pasta water to boil and doing squats as I blow dry my hair. ;) anything to get that heart rate  pumping and feel a burn.
It's hard to get the motivation to make time for traditional workouts, but once you have that motivation and start working out it makes you feel so good and you MAKE time for it. Summer is a great motivation, but friends are another. I have been blessed to meet great people in my life. And a very good friend introduced me to this awesome Facebook page that I follow on a regular. It's  called Fit 4 You by Ewanda Thompson. It is full of inspirational posts and easy steps to take, to better your body and lifestyle. There are videos posted constantly of workouts that are easy to follow but still challenging enough to feel that burn and see results. I've learned so many great workouts from watching these videos and I am able to do them all at home and they don't even take that long. It's an amazing tool that gives me the motivation to keep up with my workouts. And the members are just as motivating. It's always nice when you meet people who you can relate to and who share the same goals. It's a great page and I hope my readers will check it out and maybe gain some motivation as well. Wishing everyone motivation to better their body and lifestyle.

Art on the Table

Taking simple ingredients and turning them into something so beautiful. I can't explain the satisfaction I get after preparing a beautiful dish. Using creativity and having a vision is what I think makes cooking an art.
I found these amazing ancient peppers at a market in Chicago and the color and size of these things were so eye catching that I just needed to take them home with me. I had a vision of smothering them with olive oil and roasting them in the oven, and then stuffing them with delicious cream cheese. I did exactly that. And oh my goodness, they were perfectly delicious just as I had imagined them to be.  I made these stuffed ancient peppers a while ago but never had a chance to post them on my blog. They have since then, become one my favorite recipes. They are so easy to make and I needed my readers to know about this delicious and very beautiful dish. Serve it as an appetizer or a snack. Bring beautiful color to your plate by serving them as a side dish. Whichever way you decide to serve these peppers, they are a must try dish. They are art on the table. ;)

Wash and slice peppers in half leaving stems on.
Drizzle with your favorite olive oil and bake them in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes or so until they are a nicely roasted. Broil for about 1 minute.
Mix together softened cream cheese and season it any way you want. I added a minced up yellow pepper a green onion, and dry vegetable dip mix.
Stuff the peppers with cream cheese mixture and serve.
These will not last long! ;)

Let's Reuse and Recycle.

Reduce, reuse, recycle. The three very important R's. It's great when you find ways to help the environment by reusing things. Especially plastics and paper. I am all for helping our planet. I'm also all for saving money where I can. Which leads me to what my post is about. Do you ever wonder how much you spend on gift wrap? It's crazy. Especially when you think about how long the wrapping lasts. All that pretty tissue just gets crumbled away and thrown in the trash minutes after it's unwrapped. Well, you might want to save that tissue because I have an awesome trick that will make those crumbled up tissue papers look almost new. I've been using this trick since I could remember. And it's always worked. All you need is an iron. Just iron those wrinkles away. You will have tissue paper that looks new and you won't have spent a dime. So easy and so creative right? Try it and I'm sure you will be pleased with the results. You'll probably never throw tissue paper out again. Or ever have to buy it again. Even better! ;)

A Few of My Favorite Things

Every girl has her list of favorites. My list consists of all sorts of products, and to tell you the truth that list is always changing.  I just love trying new things, and I'm a sucker for advertisements and cute packaging! Here are a few products that I recently fell in love with and that are definitely worth a try.

Eucerin Eczema Cream

This product is amazing. Two of my kids suffer from mild eczema, and they definitely have breakout moments and it gets a little out of control. This cream helps keep it all under control. I've tried Aquaphore and other lotions made specifically for eczema and nothing ever worked as well as this product. I am so satisfied.

Soft Lips Cube

My new favorite chap stick. And, it's in the cutest little cube. Glides on smooth and keeps lips perfectly moisturized. It comes in yummy scents like pomegranate blueberry, which happens to be my favorite.

All Fresh and Sensitive Laundry Detergent

This has become my most loved laundry detergent. It's all I've been using lately. Since my kids have Eczema, I have to stay clear from scents and dyes. I hated not having the "laundry smell" after doing laundry. All's  Fresh & Sensitive detergent is clear of dyes but it's scented with a hypoallergenic scent which doesn't irritate my children's skin. I can finally have that "laundry smell" again. ;)

Febreze Home Collection Jar Candles

Lighting this candle has become my nightly ritual. It's how I get rid of any odors that are lingering around after cooking dinner. Who wants wake up to the smell of fried fish in the morning? I love fish, but I really don't want my house smelling like it. It comes in wonderful scents, and I love the shape of the thick jar. It also has great candle life. Love this candle.

Natural Care Baby Wipes

The reason I love these baby wipes so much is because of the box they come in. It's the perfect dispenser and it comes in great designs that can blend nicely into any room decor. I refill these dispensers with whatever brand of wipes I find on sale. It was a one time purchase because I love the box so much. ;)

Tree Hut Shea Butter

I was gifted this body butter by my sister in law and I'm so in love with it. It's a rich cream that moisturizes so well and it smells amazing. Truly helps keep my skin soft and smelling great. It's a keeper on my list.

Estee Lauder Lip Gloss

Girls and their lip gloss. We all have a favorite, this happens to be mine. A perfect layer of shimmer and shine with a subtle hint of color. It's a must in my make up pouch.

Neutrogena Makeup Wipes

I feel lost when I run out of these. They have become one of my favorite beauty products. It's a lazy girls best friend actually. When I'm too tired to wash my face, I just grab one of these and wipe all my makeup away. Can't believe I waited this long to start using them. In love, I tell you. In love. ;)

I hope you get to try some of these products and enjoy them as much as I do.
